Carl Ward
Carl joined the firm in September 2024, with a primary focus on litigation. His principal areas of practice are in criminal, civil, and family law matters.
After graduating from Syracuse University College of Law, he began his legal career with the Maryland Attorney General’s Office representing the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, engaging predominately in appellate litigation. He then expanded his trial experience through a position with the Prince George’s County Public Defender’s Office where he concentrated on representing juveniles and youth.
While at the Public Defender’s Office, Carl was offered and accepted a Judicial Clerkship with the Montgomery County District Court. In that position, he had the privilege of serving as a law clerk for all eleven sitting judges, aiding in criminal and civil trials daily.
He was then offered a subsequent Judicial Clerkship in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County with the Honorable Karla N. Smith, and served as her first law clerk. His work in support of Judge Smith was focused on family law and child abuse trials.
Prior to law school in 2008, he was a math teacher at a maximum-security prison in Jessup, Maryland. Carl graduated cum laude from The George Washington University in 2006, with honors in history, and spent his summer after college on an archaeological dig at Tel Megiddo in Israel. Prior to GW, Carl attended Pennsylvania State University, Behrend, his freshman year and was the MVP of the varsity water polo team and a member of the varsity swimming team.
Carl enjoys volunteering and was on the vestry of his church for four years. He’s active with State and local Bar Associations, where he’s held various position. Carl was also the head coach of the men’s and women’s water polo teams while at Syracuse, balancing his legal studies and athletic schedules. He enjoys traveling across the United States and abroad in his spare time.
From his time as a teacher for inmates, attorney for juveniles, and law clerk to multiple judges, Carl has developed a temperament able to diffuse the most stressful situations and adeptly guide clients through each step of their legal proceedings. He truly enjoys working one-on-one with people and helping them through some of the most trying times of their lives.
Carl was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, and attended Prince George’s County Public Schools. He now lives in Silver Spring with his wife and newborn.
He is licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, is a member of the Maryland Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, and the Maryland Young Lawyers Section.
