Patrick M. Klemz, Senior Associate Attorney
Patrick M. Klemz is an avid reader and researcher who puts his skills to work solving problems and maximizing outcomes for his Maryland and D.C. legal clients. He has seven years of experience representing estate planning and elder law clients in the DMV and more than 11 years of experience practicing law generally.
From January 2018 through May 2024, Mr. Klemz practiced with the Washington, D.C. law firm Quinn, Racusin & Gazzola Chartered after temporary stints working with several downtown D.C. litigation firms. He joined Pare and Associates as a Senior Associate Attorney in May 2024 and manages the firm’s Trust & Estates division.
With a background in political journalism, Mr. Klemz carefully follows legislative developments to keep abreast of the latest changes in the law. He is an active member of the D.C. Bar, Maryland State Bar Association, and several local and national trade organizations. In 2022, he was selected for the Rising Stars list by Super Lawyers.
Mr. Klemz lives in Northeast D.C. with his wife, Alison.

Mr. Klemz takes pride in helping his elder law and estate planning clients navigate the local laws governing probate, trusts, and powers of attorney. He has also taken the time to extensively study the complex regulations governing Medicaid longterm care and community-based waiver programs in Maryland and D.C., knowledge which allows him to help maximize the benefits for his clients.
Dedicated to Serving Nonprofits
Public service gives Mr. Klemz his greatest fulfillment. As an attorney, he has helped launch more than 10 nonprofits operating in the artistic, scientific, and charitable spaces. Mr. Klemz currently serves on the board of directors for two nonprofits. He is a former AmeriCorps service member, having served with a community-building organization on the South Side of Chicago.
Background
Mr. Klemz grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and earned his B.S. in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2005. Soon after graduating, Mr. Klemz moved west to work as a newspaper journalist in Missoula, Montana and San Luis Obispo, California, writing feature articles on environmental policy and state and local politics. He won several awards for his published work, including honors for best environmental reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Mr. Klemz studied business law and real property law at Lewis & Clark Law School, graduating with a J.D., cum laude, in 2012. He wrote his thesis on property law issues concerning the rights of Alaska Natives and clerked in the summers for a land use attorney in Portland. After graduating from law school, Mr. Klemz was admitted to practice in Oregon in March 2013 (currently active pro bono) and clerked for the Hon. Ilisa Rooke-Ley in Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Klemz was admitted to practice in the District of Columbia in January 2017 after relocating to the DMV in 2016. He was admitted to practice in Maryland in June 2021.
